Another essential element you must take into account is the ink. In general, the ink is a liquid coming from oil. Therefore, its oil content is high. There are also the dry inks or toner inks, basically used in photocopies.

Regular ink is the one used in printing companies. It has several pigments that get impregnated on a surface and it is basically the one used in pens and ballpoint pens.

There are several types of ink; among them, we have India ink (used for drawings) and pigmented ink. The last one usually has special components for the paper to absorb the ink; they are usually resin (in solvent inks) or agglutinating agent (in water inks). This is the one generally used in printing companies.

There are basically four systems to use ink in printing:

The first system is the one used in ink injection printing, where there is a black cartridge and the other colors are obtained mixing different magenta, yellow or cyan proportions. Sometimes, more than four colors are used in perspective to improve definition. In general, this system sprinkles very small amounts of ink. There are two methods to inject ink:

Heat method. It works through a temperature increase that makes the ink boil, and it goes out through the injectors. The vapor is condensed when it goes out and it creates a drop on the paper. The disadvantage of this method is that it easily runs out the injectors. This is why these injectors are in the ink cartridges.

Piezoelectric method. Injectors are composed of a piezoelectric element receiving an electric impulse, suddenly increasing pressure inside the head causing the injection of an ink particle. This method is faster than the heat one.

The second system is the dot matrix system. This is one of the most common methods and it works through a pixel or dot matrix creating a bigger image. The advantage of the dot matrix over other impact printers is that it can produce graphic images, besides text. However, the text generally has lower quality than type impact-based printers. v

The third system is matrix printing. There, ink-impregnated ribbons are used, as in typewriters.

The fourth system is the toner, also called dry ink. It is a black thin powder, working through electrostatic attraction. It is generally used in photocopiers and homemade printing through laser printers.
